System settings

System update

Check for, download and install new Paybob versions from the panel.

System Settings → System Update shows which version of Paybob you're running and whether a newer one is available. It's installation-wide.

The page

Three cards across the top show your Current Version, your Release Channel and when updates were Last Checked. When a newer version is available, an Update Available section shows its version, release date and changelog.

Paybob checks for updates by itself up to four times a day, so "Update Available" can appear without anyone clicking anything. Click Check Updates to check right now.

Release channels

Click Release Channel to choose:

ChannelGets
StableFinal releases only. Recommended.
BetaThe newest release of any kind, including test versions before they're final.

Paybob never offers a version older than the one you're running.

Installing an update

How you install depends on how Paybob was installed.

Docker installations

Paybob runs from a ready-made image on Docker, so updates are installed on the server, not from the panel. Under Update Available, the page shows the command:

Terminal
sudo bash /opt/paybob/upgrade.sh

The upgrade takes a full backup first and restores it automatically if anything fails. See Upgrading and rollback.

Other installations

On installations that don't run on Docker, update from the panel:

Download

Click Download. Paybob downloads the update and checks it: its checksum must match, and it must be signed by Paybob's release key. A package that fails either check is deleted and never installed.

Update Now

Click Update Now and confirm. Paybob switches to maintenance mode, backs up every file it's about to replace, copies in the new files, applies database changes, clears its caches, and switches maintenance mode off.

If anything fails while files are being copied, every file is put back as it was and the page says the previous version was restored. Database changes aren't undone automatically, so take a database backup before updating.

Your configuration (.env), uploaded files and storage are never touched by an update. An update can take a few minutes; it carries on even if you close the browser tab.

What the server needs

  • PHP's sodium extension, to check the update's signature. Most hosting has it; switch it on in your hosting panel if Download asks you to.
  • The ionCube Loader, version 14 or later. The page warns you under Update Available if it isn't active. Switch it on in your hosting panel before updating.

Permissions

The page and all its actions are one permission, given through an installation-level role. The page also stays open while the license is inactive, so you can always update.
