Currency
Exchange rates between your currencies, synced automatically or set by hand.
Exchange rates let Paybob work across currencies: a customer paying in US dollars can use a gateway that charges in another currency, and your reports can add up payments made in different currencies. Rates are installation-wide: every Brand uses the same rates.
How rates work
Every rate is quoted against the US dollar: the rate for a currency is how much of it one US dollar buys. For example, a GBP rate of 0.79 means 1 USD = 0.79 GBP. Converting between any two currencies goes through the dollar.
Paybob uses rates to:
- convert a payment into a gateway's currency at checkout, and check the gateway's limits;
- add up payments in different currencies on the dashboard and in analytics, in each Brand's own default currency.
A missing rate is never guessed
If a currency has no rate yet, Paybob doesn't treat it as 0 or 1. Gateways that would need it aren't offered for that payment, and reports leave those payments out and say so, rather than showing a wrong total.
The Currency page
System Settings → Currency lists every supported currency with its current rate. The top of the page shows which currency rates are quoted against and when they were last synced.
Sync rates now
Click Sync Rate to fetch the latest rates straight away. Rates come from a free public currency feed. If the feed can't be reached, your existing rates are kept.
Automatic sync
With Automatic Exchange Rates on in General settings, Paybob syncs rates in the background about twice a day. It's on by default.
Set a rate by hand
Click Edit on a currency to enter your own rate, for example the rate your bank actually gives you.
Automatic sync overwrites your rates
If you set rates by hand, turn Automatic Exchange Rates off in General settings, or the next sync replaces them. Sync Rate always fetches new rates, whatever that setting says.
Each Brand's currency
Rates are shared, but each Brand has its own Default Currency in General settings. A Brand's reports are converted into its own currency using the shared rates. Changing a Brand's currency doesn't change any rates.
Historical totals
Paybob keeps current rates only, not the rate on the day of each payment. A converted total for a past period can change after rates are updated.
Permissions
Viewing the page, editing a rate and running Sync Rate each have their own permission. They're installation-level permissions, so they're given through an installation-level role.
