System settings
License
Activate your license, check its status, and move it to another server.
Paybob needs an active license to take new payments. The license is for your installation, on the domain it runs at, and covers every Brand in it, including their custom domains. System Settings → License is where you activate it and check its status. Only administrators can open it.
Activate your license
Open the License page
After installing, the panel opens it for you. Otherwise go to System Settings → License. It shows the domain that will be licensed: the host of your installation's address, such as pay.example.com.
Enter your key
Paste your license key from your client area and click Activate.
A license can't be activated on a development address such as localhost, a .test domain or a private IP address.
Your server needs outgoing HTTPS access to license.paybob.io to activate and validate the license.
License status
Once activated, the page shows the license's state, with two tabs:
- License Status: when the license expires or is next due, when it was last validated, when it'll be validated next, and the latest error, if any.
- License Information: the type or package, who it's registered to, the licensed domain and the activation ID. Only a short hint of the key is ever shown, never the whole key.
| State | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Active | All is well. | Nothing. |
| Grace | The license server can't be reached, but the last validation is recent. Everything keeps working for up to 7 days. | Check your server can reach license.paybob.io. |
| Lapsed | The license server hasn't been reached for too long, and the grace period is over. | Restore the connection, then click Refresh License. |
| Suspended, Expired, Revoked | The license server reports the license this way. This takes effect at once. | Resolve it in your client area, then click Refresh License. |
| Invalid | This installation's license isn't valid: for example, it was activated somewhere else, or your installation's address changed to a different domain. | See the reason on the page. Recover, or activate again. |
| Identity Conflict | The database or storage looks copied from another installation. | Click Recover License. |
| Clock Error | The server's clock is behind. | Correct the clock (turn on NTP), then click Refresh License. |
Paybob validates the license about once a day in the background. Click Refresh License to validate it now.
When the license isn't active
Only Active and Grace allow normal use. In any other state:
- New payments are refused. Customers see a neutral "Payments are temporarily unavailable" message, without any mention of licensing. API requests to create payments are refused.
- New phones can't connect for SMS automation.
- The admin panel is locked. Administrators are taken to the License page; staff see a notice asking them to contact an administrator. System Update and Cron Job stay available, so you can always update and check background tasks.
Payments already under way always complete: gateway callbacks, payment verification, refunds through the API, SMS matching and webhook delivery are never blocked by the license.
Move to another server
To move Paybob to a new server, or to free the activation:
- On the old installation, click Clear License and confirm. This releases the activation on the license server, so it can be used again.
- Install Paybob on the new server and activate the license there.
If the old server is already gone and you couldn't clear the license there, contact support from your client area.
Changing your installation's address
The license is tied to your installation's domain. If you change the address Paybob runs at, the license becomes Invalid. Contact support before changing it.
Recover License
Recover License appears when the activation needs repairing: after the database or storage was copied, when the stored activation can't be read (for example, after the application key changed), or when the license server says this activation was replaced. It re-links this installation to its license, asking for the key again if needed.
From the server
Two commands help when checking the license without the panel:
cd /opt/paybob
docker compose exec app artisan paybob:license status # state, whether payments are allowed, and the next step
docker compose exec app artisan paybob:license refresh # validate with the license server nowActivating, recovering and clearing are only possible from the License page.
