SMS automation

Devices

Connect the Paybob Android app to forward payment SMS to your installation.

A device is an Android phone that receives your payment SMS and forwards them to Paybob through the mobile app. Connect one phone for each SIM or account that receives payment SMS.

Connect a phone

Open Connect App

In the panel, go to Automation → Devices and click Connect App. The window shows three steps: Install the app, Scan this code, SMS syncs in.

Install the app

On the Android phone, install the app. Download APK in the window opens its download page.

Scan the QR code

Open the app and scan the QR code in the window. The phone connects and appears in the device list.

Alternatively, sign in from the app with the same email and password you use for the panel.

Let SMS sync

From now on, the app forwards payment SMS to Paybob. Check SMS Data to see them arrive.

About the QR code

  • A QR code works once. After a phone connects with it, a new one is needed for the next phone.
  • It expires after 10 minutes, and a new one is made every time you open the window. Click Refresh QR for a fresh code.
  • It contains your installation's address and a one-time code, never your password.

Restrict new connections

Click Restrict in the Connect App window to stop any new phone from connecting to your account, by QR code or by password. Phones that are already connected keep working. Click Remove restriction to allow connections again.

Use it if a QR code may have been seen by someone else, or simply when you aren't adding phones.

The device list

ColumnMeaning
Device IDThe phone's connection ID, partly hidden.
Device Name, Device ModelThe phone's make and model.
Android Version, App VersionWhat the phone is running.
Last SMS SyncWhen the phone last sent SMS to Paybob. "Never" means it hasn't sent any yet.
StatusConnected or Disconnected.

Filter by status, Android version or app version.

If Last SMS Sync stops updating, check that the phone is on, has an internet connection, and that the app is allowed to read SMS and run in the background.

Reconnecting and replacing phones

  • A phone that's already connected can't connect a second time. To connect it again, delete it from the list first.
  • A disconnected phone can reconnect: it gets a new connection and keeps its history.
  • When you replace a phone, connect the new one, then delete the old one.

Deleting a device

Delete removes the phone's connection, and also deletes the SMS data and balance verification records that came from it. The window warns you before deleting. Completed payments aren't affected.

When the license isn't active

New phones can't connect while the license is inactive. Phones that are already connected keep syncing, so payments under way can still complete. See License.

Permissions

Viewing devices, connecting a device and deleting devices each have their own permission. See Staff and roles.
